Operational Flexibility

Quick ramp-up and ramp-down make this product a perfect fit for independent power producers (IPP) and combined heat and power (CHP) applications. With part-load performance down to 35% and a fast start option, the gas genset’s operational flexibility is also ideal for demand response applications. Low emissions – 250 mg/Nm³, 500mg/Nm³, (@5% O2) NOx – are achieved without external aftertreatment, even meeting the new expected German unburned THC emissions legislation (<1300mg@5%O2).

Best in class power density

The mtu Series 4000 natural gas genset has an effective engine power of 130 kWm/cylinder – the highest power density in its class thanks to its compact design and small footprint. It offers super performance at high temperatures and high humidity for use anywhere in the world and delivers 30% more power than its predecessor.

Low Lifecycle Costs

All natural gas genset components are fine-tuned to ensure long service lives and deliver maximum uptime. Long service intervals and easy-to-maintain components mean low maintenance costs. Fast availability of spare parts and low engine oil consumption also help keep the new gas genset lifecycle costs lower overall, with cylinder head lifetimes potentially equivalent to TBO.

Up To 44.4% Efficiency

The natural gas genset achieves efficiencies of up to 44.4%, delivering a significant improvement in fuel/energy utilization at high temperatures. The mtu gas-powered Series 4000 gives you more power in less space while reducing fuel and maintenance costs, especially designed for hot and humid conditions.

Hydrogen blending

Highly-efficient combustion technology results in consistently low emissions.

These emissions can be even lower when a highly-efficient engine like our mtu Series 4000 is run on green hydrogen. The engine is currently available for hydrogen blending and will soon be available to run on 100% hydrogen. When hydrogen is produced from renewables by means of electrolysis, it is referred to as “green” hydrogen. When generated in this way, it can be used as a climate-neutral fuel by modern gas engines, which convert it into electricity in a highly-efficient manner. The waste heat can be used for heating and cooling.

Emissions reduction

An exhaust gas aftertreatment (EGAT) system can help to keep local emissions such as NOx or particulates to an absolute minimum. mtu EGAT solutions are precisely matched to the engine in question and guarantee full power, best load absorption, super-fast start-up times and absolute resilience. The EGAT system, developed in-house by mtu, can be flexibly integrated with different integration options for existing plants. An all-in-one solution for all requirements of the 44th BImSchV and their documentation (limit and measured values) – integrated in the MMC control system. Retrofitting in existing MMC controls is possible without any problems and thus saves a separate control system – a perfect, efficient interplay interaction enables lowest operating costs.
